AT A GLANCE
Quick answer
A media shelf is a separate wall element, not the same as a mount behind the TV. Its fixing is selected for wall and intended equipment.
A shelf can organise a set-top box, console or player when equipment should not be enclosed behind the screen. Its dimensions, load, cable access and operation space all matter.
