Office Cat6 structured cabling

Scope to review

Choose a city and describe the scope

Plan data points before planning cable routes

A new office may need ten workstation points, twenty data outlets across several rooms or extra links for cameras and Wi-Fi access points. Point count is only the start: we need a room plan, termination locations, access to ceilings or conduits and details of any existing rack. This assesses the physical installation without promising complete network design.

  • RJ45 point count and locations
  • room plan and existing routes
  • patch-panel or network-cabinet location

Physical installation is not network administration

Scope may include routing Cat6 through accessible paths, preparing RJ45 outlets, terminations at a patch panel and clear labelling of agreed points. Separation from electrical work, wall construction and access to conduits affect the solution. ISP activation, router, firewall or VLAN configuration and managed-network work are not automatic parts of this service.

  • access to both ends of each planned route
  • models or types of existing equipment
  • a designated IT-side contact

Basic verification and handover

After physical connections are completed, basic continuity and labelling can be checked within the agreed scope. Formal link certification, specialist measurement reports and full commissioning of active equipment require separate agreement. The request should state the level of verification needed for the project.

  • point labels matching the plan
  • basic checks of agreed connections
  • a list of elements that remain with the IT team

Commercial FAQ

Can every cable be concealed in a wall?

No. Route, substrate and required scope must be assessed before work is confirmed.

Can LAN points be added to an existing office?

Yes, when the route, termination access and existing infrastructure can be assessed. State the point count and rooms.

Does cabling include router or firewall configuration?

Not automatically. Configuration of active equipment and network policies is a separate scope.

Will I receive formal Cat6 certification?

Do not assume this. The required level of testing and documentation must be specified before scope is confirmed.
